Batteries
A dead battery on a Harpenden morning
Lights left on outside a Batford terrace, or a second car that sat through a cold week on the Common. We come with boost kit, not a set of cables and a hope. If it fires and then immediately dies, the battery is probably done — we will say that rather than bouncing it all week.
What that means on the ground
- Boost at the kerb, including early jobs before people need the car for work
- We look at age and behaviour, not only whether it cranked once
- If a replacement battery is the actual fix, you hear it before we leave
- Parking sensors and stop-start cars: we treat the electrics with some care
Questions we get
Can you fit a new battery on the same visit?
When we have the right battery on the van, yes. Odd European sizes may need a second trip. We will not wedge in a ‘close enough’ unit.
It clicked and the dash went mad. Still a battery?
Often. Sometimes it is a bigger electrical fault. A jump that will not hold is information. We are not a main-dealer diagnostic bay, and we will not pretend to be.
