The wrong nozzle, and a tankful of it
The forecourt on the way into Luton has seen it a hundred times, and so have we. What matters is what happened next. If the engine has not been turned over, leave it alone and we can usually drain and flush the tank where the car stands. If it has been run, it comes with us and somebody looks at it properly. No lecture either way — careful people do this.
How the job runs
- Two questions decide everything: what went in, and did it fire
- Drained and flushed on the forecourt when the car has not been driven
- On the truck if it has, because another mile is money
- Say whether it is petrol or diesel when you ring, so the right kit comes out

I drove a mile before the penny dropped.
Then stop where you are and leave the key alone. Whether there is damage is not something to guess at on a forecourt. We move the car somewhere it can be drained and looked over, and the verdict comes from there.
Can you work on a garage forecourt?
Usually, if the site will let us stand while we do it. Tell us which station: the ones at Harpenden, Markyate and Hemel Hempstead are all laid out differently and it changes where we park.
