New tyre fitted on your own drive in Harpenden
Read the numbers off the sidewall — something like 205/55 R16 — and you’ll have a price before anything moves. Then we come out to wherever the car is already standing: a drive in Kinsbourne Green, a residents’ bay off Southdown, the staff parking at Rothamsted Research. The wheel comes off, the new tyre goes on the balancer in the van, and the worn one leaves with us.
How the job runs
- A price first, off the sidewall numbers or from the make, model and year if the wall is scuffed
- Budget, mid-range or premium, and an honest steer on which suits the miles you do
- Balanced in the van before it goes back on, then torqued to the figure the car asks for
- A fresh valve with every full tyre, and the worn one taken away with us
- If the other tyre on that axle is down to the bars, you’ll hear it before you pay for one

The writing on my sidewall has worn away. What now?
Don’t kneel in the road trying to read it. Give us the make, the model and the year, and a photo of a tyre on the other side of the car if you can. We’ll put a size to you and wait for a yes before the van is loaded.
Do you carry the size, or is it ordered in?
The sizes the cars round Harpenden and St Albans actually run on live on the van. Something unusual — a big alloy, an older import — may want a day, so we’re not promising rubber we haven’t got.
How far out from Harpenden is this?
Harpenden is home. St Albans, Redbourn, Wheathampstead, Hemel Hempstead and Luton are an ordinary day. Out towards Bedford or Milton Keynes is a proper drive and we’ll say so on the phone rather than after you’ve waited.
